Chicago Pattern Project was founded by designers Petra Probstner and René King. The project translates experiential and digital data sets into patterned artifacts that aim to engage pedestrians in a dialogue about the complexities of contemporary urban space.     

René King is a designer, educator, and design advocate. She is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in Interior Architecture at Columbia College Chicago. Her work focuses on the human-centered design process as a tool to engage students and local communities in the creation of spatial solutions.

Petra Probstner is an Associate Professor in Interior Architecture at Columbia College Chicago. She has worked as an architect and designer in her native Kecskemet, Glasgow, London, Buffalo, Toronto, and Chicago focusing on experimental spatial design both in built projects as well as award winning competition entries.
